Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, episode 107: "Once More, With Feeling", first aired on Tuesday November 6, 2001 at 8 p.m., with an encore screening on Friday, November 16, at 8 p.m.

The first screening was the only time it was aired in its full length of 50 min. 52 sec. (not counting commercials), making it run 8 minutes overtime. To fit within an hour of airtime, a shorter version will be shown for reruns and syndication.

As Joss Whedon posted on the official message board on October 31:

"Tuesday night [Nov. 6] is the ONLY TIME the show will be broadcast in its entirety. It will run again, but deep cuts will have to be made--UPN are gods for letting us run (a total of eight minutes) long, but they can't do it on the rerun too."

Incidentally, during the first screening, technical difficulties caused the show to black out on some stations, such as Chicago's WPWR, who received hundreds of complaint calls.

Ratings

reported on Wed, Nov 7, 2001:

"Buffy the Vampire's" special musical episode, "Once More with Feeling," scored 5.4 million viewers on Tuesday night (Nov. 6). While the number was higher than last week's Halloween episode (5.2 million viewers), it didn’t come close to the show's UPN premiere last month (7.7 million).

While the drama wasn't a ratings stunner, it did beat The WB's "Gilmore Girls" (which has taken over "Buffy's" old slot on the network) in adults 18-49 (2.7/7 vs. 2.6/7), adults 25-54 (2.7/6 vs. 2.5/6) and men 18-49 and 24-54.

Overall, "Buffy" came in third for the timeslot in adults 18-34 with a 2.9/8 after FOX (8.2/23) and The WB (3.0/8).

However, their report on Tues, Nov 13, 2001 gave it a slightly better result:

The episode pulled 5.6 million viewers, thanks to tough competition from other networks -- including the Halloween episode of "The Simpsons."
