During the opening bars, BUFFY
picks her COAT off a chair and
puts it on. As LIGHTS FADE on the
MAGIC BOX, BUFFY moves CS, where a
few BUMS have entered pushing a
BURNING DRUM and dance around it.
BUFFY holds her hand over the
DRUM.
BUFFY
I TOUCH THE FIRE
AND IT FREEZES ME
I LOOK INTO IT AND IT'S BLACK
WHY CAN'T I FEEL?
MY SKIN SHOULD CRACK AND PEEL
I WANT THE FIRE BACK
LIGHTS FADE UP on the BRONZE STAGE
as SWEET puts DAWN into a seat,
and then sits down in the seat
beside her.
BUFFY (cont'd)
NOW THROUGH THE SMOKE
SHE CALLS TO ME
TO MAKE MY WAY ACROSS THE FLAME
TO SAVE THE DAY
OR MAYBE MELT AWAY
I GUESS IT'S ALL THE SAME
SO I WILL WALK THROUGH THE FIRE

LIGHTS UP on SPIKE, sitting USL by
the wire fence, with a CIGARETTE
in his hand.
SPIKE
THE TORCH I BEAR IS SCORCHING ME
BUFFY'S LAUGHING, I'VE NO DOUBT
I HOPE SHE FRIES
I'M FREE IF THAT BITCH DIES
(He throws the cigarette away and stands)
I BETTER HELP HER OUT
He jumps up on the wire fence and
begins climbing it.

(rising from his seat)

SPIKE jumps over the fence and
exits. LIGHTS UP on the MAGIC BOX.
WILLOW and TARA are sitting on
opposite sides of the table.

though not actually address them.

coat. PUPPETS 1, 2 and 3 enter
from different points of the
stage, trying to surround BUFFY
without being noticed.

BRONZE STAGE. SWEET casually
motions her closer.

The scoobies are horrified by this
revelation, particularly WILLOW.
BUFFY, on the verge of tears,
turns to look at their reaction.

(to SWEET)

SWEET shakes his head. BUFFY jumps
from the BRONZE STAGE and begins
dancing wildly. Her movements
becomes more frantic and she
begins to GLOW from a RED
SPOTLIGHT. She spins, as though
welcoming her imminent
destruction.
SWEET is on the edge of his seat,
grinning in anticipation.
BUFFY'S movement brings her DSR,
where SPIKE suddenly enters and
grabs her by the shoulders to stop
her.
SPIKE

Now that was a show-stopping number. Not quite
the fireworks that I was looking for...

(He stands, moves to DAWN)
I guess the little missus and I should be on
our way.
GILES
That's never going to happen.
SWEET
I don't make the rules. She summoned me.
DAWN
I so did not! He keeps saying that.
SWEET

DAWN
But, no... I -- this -- at the Magic Box. It
was on the floor. I was cleaning and I forgot --
but I didn't summon anything!

Well, now. That's a twist.
GILES
If it was in the shop, then one of us

GILES turns to look back at the
scoobies. Long pause before
finally:
XANDER raises his hand.
ANYA

Well, I didn't know what was gonna happen! I
just thought there was gonna be dances and
songs. I just wanted to make sure we'd work
out, get a happy ending.
SWEET
I think everything worked out just fine.
XANDER
(to Sweet)
Does this mean that I have to...be your queen?
SWEET
It's tempting... but I think we'll waive that
clause just this once. Big smiles everyone! You
beat the bad guy.
He spins 360 degrees and the
moment he finishes the LIGHTS
CHANGE to...something else.

realizes he can control his
movements.

THE CURTAINS CLOSE

CROSS FADE to lights across DS.
SPIKE enters DSL crossing the
stage. BUFFY follows a moment
later.

(stops and turns back to Buffy)
You should go back inside. (Have a big group
finale/reprise) Finish the big group-sing. Get
your kum-bay-yayas out.
BUFFY
I don't want to.
SPIKE
The day you suss out what you do want, there'll
probably be a parade. Seventy-six bloody
trombones.
BUFFY

Look, you don't have to say anything...
